The beaches are narrow sand and shingle in several small, shallow coves, no more than 150 yds from the town centre; they can become crowded and mud can sometimes be a problem. Beach facilities include sunbeds and sun umbrellas, showers and toilets. Shopping here is limited, although tourist shops sell local honey, ouzo, olive-wood trinkets and beach wear. There is a large discount store on main road. Corfu Town is the place to go for more serious shopping. During the daytime there is beach and water-based activities including paragliding, diving and a variety of other water sports. There is also boat trips, horse riding, and exploring the local countryside.
The nightlife offers lively tavernas, cocktail and sports bars; discos, which are mainly along the main road. There are some good-value snack bars, along with Greek tavernas serving traditional fare, pasta restaurants and pizzerias, even Chinese and Tex-Mex options. British cuisine is widely available.
