I was very disappointed in this hotel. Although it said on its website that it was close to the centre, beach etc it was actually 40 minutes quick walking distance from the Promenade Des Anglais which is the centre of things.
There was no bus service which passed the hotel except one going to Monaco which was the other direction fron Nice centre.

At the hotel reception they told us we could get a bus 200 metres away...not true! More like one mile and it went to the bus station anyway where you had to get another bus to the centre.

The hotel room bore no resemblance to the picture on the website. A flashing neon sign flashed on and off all night outside the bedroom window and the traffic noise was horrendous as the room was overlooking the main road to Monaco.

The shower didn't work properly and the breakfast was very basic as in one cereal - cornflakes - and white rolls (no brown bread at all), no marmalade either. The breakfast area was too small for the amount of guests and everyone was jostled about trying to get coffee etc. in a very tiny area.

Reception was unhelpful and not friendly at all. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone and it was not a cheap hotel, it was mid-priced.

Trams around Nice

A tramway system is currently being built in Nice town which has resulted in considerable disruption to the street scene and local bus services.
However, there is so much to be enjoyed in the Old Town and the Promenade des Anglais, visitors should not be deterred.

I understand road works will be suspended for the annual carnival in February and thoroughly recommend it for a short break. There are even bargain hotel prices to be had, particularly along the planned tramway route!

Nice is a brilliant city - it's as cheap or as expensive as you want it to be.
• Relax in the flower market on a Sunday morning. Whilst there have a crepe or tarte d'onion - almost free.
• Go to the glace fruit factory - cheap.
• Go to Loco Beach Fish Restaurant where the movie stars eat. This is run by fishermen - not expensive.
• Great Shops eg. Naff Naff, Galleries Lafayette - all cheaper than the UK.
• Nip up to Grasse, up to Mougins, across to Monte Carlo or see Cagne Sur Mens great castle.
• Don't miss St Paul De Vence - a delightful hill top village with spectacular views.
• A special treat - have a coffee and a cake at the Hotel Negresco.
• Explore the adjoining Var Area - Hyere and Porquerrolle - an island with silver sand beaches and no cars.
• Jump on a train at Nice Central - 45 minutes later you are at the Italian border. Catch a bus to San Remo for lunch
• Drive up to the Alpes Maritime. Moulinet is a beautiful village (also home for the night stages of the Monte Carlo Rally)

I never tire of Nice. South of France it may be - but it's not very expensive and just great to walk around and soak up the old and new charm.

We walked into this hotel when in Nice as the hotel included in our package was so bad. It was fairly expensive even in low season but it was worth every penny. It's situated on the coast at the bottom of the hill & within a short walk of the market area in the old town. The staff were really helpful & friendly. Our room had a huge balcony overlooking the sea with 2 loungers on it perfect for crashing out on after a busy morning wandering around the old town.

The room was beautifully furnished, comfortable & spacious. I can't reccomend this hotel highly enough as a wonderful base for exploring Nice. One of our favourite afternoon's was relaxing on the sunny balcony with the cheese plate ordered from room service & a bottle of wine brought back from town, looking out over the sea.

If you're going to Nice, treat yourself to a stay at Hotel Perouse!

First time in Nice and we were quite impressed. Nice itself is absolutely huge, you need a food few weeks to see it all. The weather was warm but pleasant. The beach was lovely and it was worth paying the extra for a sunbed/parasol.

Hotel Oasis is a lovely hotel about 10-15 minutes walk from the promenade. It was run by English family and they were very helpful. The rooms although small were well equipped with air conditioning, safe and tv all of which was included in the price. Breakfast was as said, typical continental and quite nice. The hotel has a bar but if you are sitting outside then it's very quiet after 10pm as is situated in a residential area.

Beware that Nice is quite expensive from everything from a 3 course meal to a coffee and baguette! Was not that impressed with the food in general as most of the restaurants had the same menu and it did get a bit much but there was a nice Italian in Rue Meyerbeer which was excecllent.
