Everything at hotel excellent. Food included large prawns, seafood, highest quality meats. Fresh salads.

Tends to be fully booked - can be problem with keeping room on. We paid full price - 69 euros as we were leaving at midnight, so booked this well before departure day.

Sunbed area a little crowded. 2 sunbeds on our balcony 2nd floor.

Local resort small but so very, very clean. Lovely bars and coffee shops. Several supermarkets and a general shopping area. High quality shops available.

Just returned from 2 weeks stay at Riu Palace Melonoras. October 2006.
We had booked 2 separate garden villas which are situated in the grounds of the hotel and we had a garden and sea view. The villas consist of bedroom, bathroom and sitting room. TV (only 2 English channels rest German or Spanish/French), Mini Bar (silly prices), Safe (paid I think 30 Euros). The villa was spotless and fully stocked with the usual Hotel soaps, sewing kit blah blah blah. The maid service was first class - towels were changed whenever you wanted and the maids were friendly and very polite. I would say that the cleaning was to a standard I have never experienced before on any holiday any where in the world. Pool towels were available at any time - return the used and get clean.

The food - breakfast is buffet and pretty much anything you want, chef will cook you an ommelette while you wait. Good coffee awful tea, take some tea bags to liven up the pot - breakfast 08.30 to 10.30 - just average quality though. Dinner is two sittings - 18.00 or 20.00 either buffet or waiter service you have to nominate what time and you are allocated a table which you stay in for the duration. The food was good and the wine not too expensive, An alternative is the separate grill restaurant in which you can dine - you have to book a table - the food was excellent and a much more relaxed atmosphere once again the service was excellent.

The hotel comprised I guess with 90% German and 10% others consequently pool loungers around 2 pools in the prime sites had all been taken by early morning. This for me is a real annoyance and I think all hotels should address this problem. Entertainment every evening - OK not great. Reception very efficient and pro-active.
The resort is up market with several designer outlets but we didn't think any real price savings. We were told not to buy any electronic goods or cameras - they are very cheap but buyer beware. Taxis abundant and cheap. Our two year old grand-daughter need medical attention. Arranged instantly at hotel and sorted.
This is not a lively hotel but well run, clean and I think up market. Average age of guest was middle age. I think it would be boring for youngsters once they had exhausted the pool, table tennis and pool table.
The weather as at early October was El Schorchio 27-30C every day it was great.

We will return next year and I would recommend highly for the family without older children.

The Hotel is in a nice location 200mtrs from shopping centre. It is obviously a 4*/5* resort. Hotel although big, does offer quite a personal service. Service from all levels of staff is excellent.Food is of very good standard, plenty available all day. Self service for soft drinks in Three of the bars, also beer is self service at the pool bars.

One downside (though not really) when getting our Bacardi and cola light, we had to get an extra cola light because it was TOO strong!! and they are the proper named brands. The rooms were excellent cleaned daily and you even get towels to use around the pool, what more can I say. Just one thing, there is building work next door, our room faced it but you can hardly hear a thing. Go and enjoy an excellent choice of hotel. We'll certainly be going back

The recent reports of this hotel are spot on .The food is absolutely great- so much choice its endless and food cooked while you wait, filet steak, salmon, chicken.
Always a joint being carved.

The hotel rooms are spotless-with nice touches, chocolates at turndown time.
Fruit and cava left in room. Free wall safe.

The walk to the lighthouse/ sand dunes along the coastal walkway is about 15 mins.

This is five star (well 4 star plus).

No hotel can satisfy every single customer -because some customers are plain nuts.

Book it - you'll love it

We always go to H10 hotels for the known standard and H10 Club points. We usually get a good room but this one right over the road was really disappointing. It took most of the next day to get it changed to somewhere half decent.

Yes its a five star but the food is H10 average and the roast joint ran out every night. Plus point is that staff all over the hotel are really excellent and friendly.

Entertainment? The ABBA impersonators were NEXT week :>( How I miss Juanita's ABBA impersonation from Playa Blanca!

Weather poor too. Took a local bus on a couple of occasions to Puerto Mogan which is very nice indeed. Had a very pleasant beer and light lunch by the harbour on a couple of occasions. The bus ride was terrific in every sense of the word - not for those of nervous disposition!

First Choice are never my first choice but a week at HB for £460 per person was the cheapest week I've ever had in the Canaries. Flight was OK but they insisted in booking our seats in advance without asking for any preference. Unusually I prefer an aisle seat. Aircraft was very old without LCD TV screens.

Would I go back again? Well its a million times better than going to work in Manchester!

Having been overbooked in original hotel and only being told the day before flying that because of half term we could only be offered one other hotel we arrived in gran canaria very worried. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise.

This hotel is pure luxury. The rooms, meals, pool area and location were excellent. Staff could not do enough for you and across the road were the lovely sand dunes. The hotel sits on the edge of the new development meloneras which has lovely new upmarket cafes and restaurants. It was a delight to walk along the promenade in the evening. Everything was spotlessly clean with no timeshare reps or anyone pestering you. The only small gripe and not one that bothered us, was that there were very few british people in the hotel, about 6 other families, therefore television and entertainment was geared around other nationalities, but not enough to put us off.

We will hopefully be back.

We arrived early afternoon and as soon as we walked in the hotel I felt sure that we were going to enjoy ourselves.
Our children enjoyed the pool and didn't want to leave the hotel. Even when we went for a day at the waterpark they just wanted to hurry back to the hotel(the waterpark was good but the kids thought that the hotel was better.
The food was excellent(lots of choice and well presented).
The hotel is only a 15 minute walk to the beach. If you go out of the back gate and cross the road, then walk down the side of the river you can't get lost.
There is a small shop over the road from the back gate.
We went on the free blanket trip which was very boring for our children but Ashley the guide was very friendly and informative.
I really cant think of anything bad to say about the hotel. We had a very happy and relaxing 2 weeks there.
Oh yes, the entertainment isn't worth watching and the room gets very smokey!
Apart from that it was a fantastic holiday.

My/Our Holiday Opinion: booked this 4 weeks before we went, it was all-inc thought would be nice to do nothing. food was ok sometimes if you like german food my youngest eat chips and ice cream thats it.we eat out alot ,not alot of choice food or drink wise. the rep was cr*p we seen him once . if your kids want ice cream out of eating times you had to pay. it was out in the sticks so we had taxis everyday to go to town they were cheap about 3 euro ,but by the time you worked out the cost over the day then the week it was more than i thought it would cost ,we spent 50 qiud on taxis. over all this was going to be a last min cheap hol before i went in hospital, what a mistake that was. check thing out with the staff about where things are and what free bus they have to offer to places, as the rep never told us .

US english didnt get a room to change before our flight,as we had to check out at 12 and we did fly till 8pm so i asked 2 day before if we had somewhere to get changed ,was told that they have a coutursy room for guests checking out,the morning all us english checked out no rooms available, but at 2.15 a german couple took there key back to reception to check out before they left ,that says it all .would go back to gran canaria .never again would i come here.

WE had booked a week with another family, each own bungalow. Very basic, needed some maintenance but roomy, the gardens for each one were lovely as was the pool and very well maintained. 5 mins walk to Faro 2 cicular shopping centre, loads of nice restaurants, especially the Chinese one downstairs and Michael Angelos Italien one upstairs.

Plenty of shops although a bit more expensive than other centers in Playa del Ingles. Taxis were cheap 3 euros (£2) to local places so used them a lot. Very frequent better than waiting for buses on hot days. Temp. was 30 to 32 degrees. "Aqualand" great fun for all and the 3 day pass very good value thought we'd go only twice but used 3 visits. Easier to bring packed lunch and just buy ice creams/tea/coffee. Maspalomas beach was a 25 min walk from here, nice beach ,local shops/restaurants, can get taxi back.Nice food but poor service in one restaurant where music and a crepe bar, can't remember name. local camel rides good value at 7 euros for half hour. Trampolines and arcade and childrens play area at Faro 2, good for evening.

First visit to GC but would go back. We would definitely recommend.

Please note there is NOT an indoor swimming pool on this complex, as some travel companies still have listed on their websites!!! There is nothing to keep younger kids occupied exept a pool table, as the pool is sooooo cold ice cubes dont melt in it!! Joe is a diamond, he kept us all amused for the whole holiday, and his food is far better than anything you can get in Faro II. Be warned though it is not as cheap as it used 2 b in Faro II, it seems that all the bars have got 2getha and all charge about the same - too much!! we were paying 12euros for 2 vodka n tonics n they were small ones!! Puerto Rico is still good value for money for both food and drinks though, so take our advice hire a car and seek out those cheaper bars! Or if you decide 2 stay around the complex Joe's Bar is the most reasonable around - especially during 'Happy Hour' just listen for the bangers at 5.00, unless some miserable bbb has complained again!!

Would definitely stay at the Kiwi again, but maybe just as a couple as the bungalows are really only suitable for 2 - there is no space for more than 2 persons clothes, & I hate living out of a suitcase!! Some people were actually staying for 2 months at a time so that says it all. Yes good value for money, good entertainment (Joe) and well positioned for Faro II.

We arrived at the El Palmeral on saturday the 3rd of july as soon as we stepped foot into the complex we new in was going to be great.there was a lovely pool the appartments were a little small but livable they were very clean. It was a bit stuffy but we rented a fan. as i was traveling with children i was looking for a friendly atmosphere and thats exactaly what we got. In the complex the bar staff were great especially with the kids. The bar served great food and from 4-5 there was a happy hour 2 drinks for the price of one ehich was great.

We were supposed to stay at the El Palmeral or 2 weeks but our stay there was cut short wher cracks appeared in the pool and the pool was out of order as it was only our 5th day there we asked to be moved the place we went to next had no comparrison to the El Palmeral but we made the most of it. for eating out the faro2(about 2 minite walk from the complex) and the Yumbo are good i recomend lucky lukes there was a great fair ground about a 10 minite walk away.

we will definately be going back to the El palmeral as every one of the residents spoke english which wes good and of corse the friendly atmosphere at is als very relaxing hope you decide to go there HAPPY HOLIDAYS XXX

What a bargain!!!!!!
Thoroughly enjoyed this holiday. We were all inc. The food was basic but for the price we paid we didn't mind. It's not as if we went hungry. The drinks at the pool bar left a bit to be desired, cheap local boozes that tasted horrible. Even the bar man warned people off of the white wine!

The apartment was large with the kitchen and living room downstairs and bathroom and bedroom upstairs and a very small balcony which was just big enough to dry swimming cozzies and towels, We sat on the porch in the evenings.
The pool area was being refurbished on the first 2 days but there are 2 pools on the site. Very clean and friendly staff. The entertainment was a bit boring and finished by 10pm but that was the best time to go out. The Yumbo centre was only 3 euros by taxi which took a couple of minutes. It is absolutely huge and on 3 levels, lots of shops and bars. Cafe La Belle is a must. It had some of the best drag acts I have ever seen and was hilarious.

We are definitely going back to Maspalomas again.
