During my visit to Brussels I stopped in the Brussels Best Western Hotel, which is situated near to Brussels Midi Train station and in a central location.
Most hotels in Belgium are very basic but the Brussels Best Western does not disappoint and is a higher standard than most other hotels. The hotel was clean, comfortable and the staff were very friendly.
Brussels is a lovely City for a weekend break. It has plenty of things to see and do and is in a good location, with great transport links if you wish to visit other nearby sites and cities.
I would recommend taking time to visit the Grand Place in Brussels. This is the main square, in which the architecture is amazing. I found that the square itself can get very busy, especially during lunchtime. I would recommend that you go there as early as possible to avoid the crowds. The Grand Place has plenty of beautiful cafes and restaurants. But be warned, these are very expensive! I found that if you walk a little further down the main street – towards the Cathedral – there are plenty of nice and cheaper places to eat and drink. Well worth a visit is Cafe Drug Opera, which is a beautiful and opulent restaurant and bar. For wine connoisseurs it has a wonderful wine cellar, which can be visited.
The Manneken Pis, for which Brussels is famous, is a little bit of a let down. It is worth a look, but I found that no more than a couple of minutes needs to be allocated to visiting this site.
All in all, Brussels is great for a weekend break, with plenty of things to see and do and with a good nightlife. The only criticism that I have is that it is not suitable for people with walking difficulties. Most of the streets are cobbled, uneven and narrow and not the best walking conditions for anyone who is elderly or who has walking difficulties.

I was fortunate enough to visit Brussels in December when the City was alive with festive spirit. There were numerous Christmas markets set up in the various squares and market places. Not to be missed was the huge ice rink which is set up in Brussels every year. The Market Place Square provided a combination of beautiful architecture and festivities.
This was the ideal location for a weekend break. Brussels caters for most, with a combination of plenty of historical buildings and lots to see and do, with all the atmosphere of a City. The only problem is that the hotels in the City Centre tend to be expensive and those located outside of the City are quite a distance away, but a very good public transport system is in operation.
