This is a great place to visit for a couple of days, with plenty for all ages to see and do.
Bruges is, of course, famous for its canals and if at all possible I would recommend that you visit during the summer months when the canal boats are working and it is possible to enjoy trips along the canals. Unfortunately, during the winter months, due to the weather, many of the canal boats are not in operation.
Aside from the canals there is plenty to see and do in Bruges. The city has lots of sites of historical interest, such as the Belfry Tower. The Belfy is located in the centre of Bruges, near to the market square, and I would recommend that, if you are able to and have the time do so, you accept the challenge to climb the 366 steps to the top of the Belfy. It is well worth the effort. I went up the Belfry on a clear day and the views were breathtaking!
If you are lucky enough to visit Bruges in nice weather then I would suggest going a little off the beaten track to have a wonder around Lake Minnewater, which is about a ten minute walk away from the market square. The lake, and its surrounding gardens, are very scenic and the nearby restaurants are highly recommended.
There is plenty to do in Bruges to keep you occupied for a couple of days, especially in the summer months but I would imagine that only 2 or 3 days were necessary to see all of the sites.
I visited for a long weekend and this was plenty of time to see everything that we wanted to see. Any longer than 3 days and we would have had to travel out of the city to find other things to see and do.
I stopped at the Holiday Inn Bruges, which was of a similar standard to all Holiday Inn’s. It was clean, comfortable the staff were helpful. The only problem which we experienced was that its location made it difficult to travel into Bruges of an evening. It was too far to walk and very few buses went in that direction of an evening. I think I will look for a more central location next time!

In response we went to Bruge, and had a great night out.
Pole Pole is a great coctail bar on a budget! For 5 Euros you can get a lovely cocktail with fresh juice (so you are getting your 5-a-day in a more enjoyable way!), and you get the great atmosphere for free!
Exotic music and friendly staff make it a great night out. The rest of this short street is packed with other great bars and restaurants, so definitely a great place to hang out in the evenings!
