Paradise Flycatcher - La Digue and Palm Beach - Praslin |
|
|
There are not many British in the Seychelles. In that part of the world, the Indian Ocean, they'd rather go to the Maldives or to Mauritius and this is why:
Unless you are staying in the top hotels (which cost anything from £300 to £5000 (yes!) a night, the other hotels are fairly basic for the money (e.g. £200 a night for a 3 star hotel). Food and drinks are very expensive. And last, but not least, there is absolutely nothing to do when it gets dark (at 6:00). There is no nightclubs, hardly any bars (and they are very expensive). BUT:
This is paradise on earth. The scenery is out of this world. Praslin and La Digue have the most beautiful beaches in the world. Now, I am not a beach person, but I could stay there for hours looking at the amazing landscape. There are very few cars on Praslin and on La Digue, you cannot rent one, so either you walk everywhere or you cycle. The food is excellent, but if you don't like fish, there is not much else. You can have seafood (like prawns or lobster), but it is even more expensive than in England. You won't get your 5 a day vegetables or fruit either, as despite having a tropical climate, apart from coconut, there is little else (maybe the odd papaya).
If you are a nature lover, this place is for you, but if you want something more exciting, go elsewhere.
It's our second time there, and I hope not the last. We can't resist the beauty of these islands.
