The Rock hotel is just wonderful and is set just out of Gibraltar town on a hillside with excellent views of the bay.
The gardens are very pretty and include an aviary. Across the road from the hotel is its private pool and also some beautiful public botanical gardens, in which there are numerous cannons and statues of British military heroes with Gibraltan connections.

The hotel itself has a relaxed atmosphere with excellent smiling staff. The hotel has a great reputation with numerous stars having stayed and signed the guest book i.e Sir John Mills, Winston Churchill, Errol Flynn, Sean Connery and far too many others to mention.

The rooms are all spacious with sea views and have bathrobes and two complimentary decanters of sherry and whisky should you fancy a tipple. The bathrooms are large and even have a pair of ducks to keep you company whilst soaking in the bath.

The restaurant and bar were very good with wonderfully efficient staff as were the public rooms.

So all in all an excellent choice and my wife and I will be returning as soon as possible.

We visited this hotel from the 17th-21st Sept 2005. The hotel is in the final stages of refurbishment, expected to be complete in October 2005.
The hotel is well located for the town, it will be very comfortable when complete. At the time of our visit it was noisy during the day, but not really a problem.

We did not eat in the hotel as we were 'room only' and breakfast was £13 and we prefer going out to dine. The staff were pretty friendly and helpful, although some only speak Spanish.

The main street in Gib has many cafes and bars etc, as does the main square 'Casemates', but we found the best evening meals were on Queensway Marina, about 5-10 mins walk, or Marina Quay which is further, about 15 mins.

There is a very good bus service around the island during the day, and a taxi anywhere is about £5.
