Great

It was our first time to anywhere in the South Pacific and Bora Bora was a truly spectacular destination. I have never seen anywhere so picturesque and idylic. The lagoon surrounding the island is an unbelievable sight with every colour of turquoise and blue.

We spent 5 nights at the Matai Polynesia hotel which is the budget hotel option on the Island. Despite going for the cheapest hotel, we were very impressed with the accommodation and enjoyed a lovely Overwater Bungalow for our accommodation. We did visit some of the more expensive accommodation (The Intercontinental Moana and Intercontinental Resort and Thalasso Spa) which did get us dreaming of what it would be like to stay in such luxury. That being said, we were happy with our accommodation and could still enjoy the treasures of the Island without paying such a premium.

In terms of excursions and tours, we enjoyed a Lagoonarium tour (visitng the Coral Garden, shark and fish feeding in the lagoon etc). This tour allows you to spend a lot of time relaxing on a private Motu (island) that has an incredible view of the Mountain int eh distance. We also did a jeep safari around the mountain which allowed us to see a couple of WW2 cannons that were left from a UD Base in WW2. This jeep safari also allowed us to see some incredible views from the mountain. Our 3rd excursion was at the Intercontinental Spa where we enjoyed a relaxing massage and the full Spa failities for around 5 hours. This is strongly recommended too.

All in all, Bora Bora is an incredible destination (ideal for honeymooners or those wanting to relax in a paradise setting). The diving and snorkelling options are great and the beaches and scenery cannot surely be surpassed by anywhere else in the world. The only draw back is the nightlife as there litterally isn't anything. Everything closes down by about 11pm (including restaurants). This maybe due to being slightly out of season but there really isn't any late night options anywhere. However, for us, this wasn't a problem for us as we enjoyed the daytimes so much.
