If you're a beach lover, there's so many lovely sandy beaches to choose to visit on the La Manga strip. It is an ideal place for families with young children and for people seeking a relaxing break in the Meditteranean sunshine or a swim in the warmer waters of the Mar Menor and the weather was perfect for our visit. It is a quiet cosmopolitan resort except for major holiday times when it becomes much busier. Easter holidays were just starting as we left! La Manga is a really great place for boating and water sports fans. There are good places to eat out with fish dishes a speciality and there are a variety of supermarkets selling fresh produce on a daily basis. There are some other shops on the La Manga strip, but Cartegena would be the better place to visit for a day out for shopping and further sightseeing. La Manga does have two local markets, a large market on a Sunday morning in the Cabo de Palos area and a smaller market on a Saturday morning in the area of Tomas Maestre Marina. There is also a tourist boat which leaves from the Tomas Maestre Marina and crosses the Mar Menor to Santiago De La Ribera on the Spanish mainland close to San Javier (Murcia) airport. I have visited this destination before and will certainly go back again. The climate was perfect for a welcome Spring holiday!

I visited La Manga Del Mar Menor over the Chhristmas period and despite being winter, the weather was 15-20 degrees which was very pleasant.

There isn't much to do in La Manga other that relax on any stretch of beach that due to La Manga's strange Geography is all around you.

The strip of land that forms La Manga is definately better further down with better quality properties and a really nice Marina and beaches. Towards the top of the strip, the area has beenruined by high rise apartments that have gimicky themes (like pyramids & castles). There seems to be no planning department in San Javier.

All in all, La Manga is great for beach and watersports. As for everything else, you'll need to travel outside of this area.
