This is easily the most overrated city and tourist destination. First of all, this place is unbelievably expensive. EVERYTHING is at least 2 to 5 times the price one would pay in North America. And with that high price comes exceedingly poor service. The hospitality industry in Sydney and Australia need to learn what the term "hospitality" means. At a fairly expensive uncrowded restaurant (all are expensive here) we were seated elbow to elbow with fellow diners. We asked to be moved to one of several open tables but were denied the request so we walked out. At another restaurant we asked for a glass of water and were told we had to buy A $5 bottle of water. If you are coming from North America where you are used to good service you will be shocked by the bad service in Australia. Also the food is just very mediocre wherever you go and insanely expensive. As for the city itself, it isn't much at all. The Museums, galleries, etc are crap. All in all a very underwhelming place that didn't come close to meeting expectations. A long way to travel for not much reason

Sydney was a great place although I unfortuately only stayed for 3 days due to other travel plans. I managed to cram in the opera house, the harbor bridge and a few bars. Wonderful destination. I thoroughly recommend it.

Sydney is a great place for many reasons. From experience try and afford a hotel for your stay. The hostel scene in Sydney is very poor. I stayed at an overspill hopstel that formed part of Sydney Uni accommodation. It was awful and the heat was unbearable without air conditioning.

In agreement with the above post. Sydney's night life is also fantastic. Thoroughly recommend Bondi beach and a short trip out to the blue mountains is well speant time.

Hi, anyone who is thinking of going to Sydney will not be dissapointed. Be sure to spend at least 2 weeks here. The obvious attractions such as the opera house, harbour bridge are worth the hype. I would recommend taking a tour of the Opera house which will teach you about the history of the building and will also allow you to see the incredible concert halls inside. From my 5 week Australia holiday, my week in Sydney was the best.
