This hotel is sold as a beach holiday but the beach was unusable due to lack any beach furniture and the polluted sea. This was made worse by the hotel not having any sun umberellas. Its position can only be described as urban.
The accomodation was good apart from the hotel inability to be able to explain what a "de-lux sea view room" was. Food and service was good but spoilt due to the high cost of drinks (£5 for a lager) which left the hotel deserted in the evenings, a great shame as the quality of entertainment was excellent. Superb eating places outside the hotel, Jewel of the North, Fantasia and the very cheap Long Beach to name but a few.
Would not return to Penang as it is far too developed for our taste.

The Ferringhi Beach hotel was just as we expected, very slightly worn ( it was built around 1980), but with very friendly staff, lovely rooms and an excellent restaurant. It is so popular that many of the English guests there had been visiting for 3 or 4 years. Sadly it was not even half full due to cancelled bookings because of the Tsunami. For us this was a blessing as the pool and surrounding area would not cope if the hotel had been full.
Having sampled the “delights” of nearby Batu Ferringhi and its famed night market, we were very glad to be staying at our chosen hotel. Everywhere in Penang, eating and transport costs are minimal and although we were advised not to go in the sea (due to pollution and jelly fish) we still enjoyed our 15 day stay to the full.
As an example, a car and driver for the day to visit a number of the tourist sites cost only £28. He even waited while we visited Penang Hill, up the tramway and back.
