Only visited Grand Cayman for the day as had taken a cruise holiday. What a wonderful place! Must go again sometime. English is the official language of the Cayman Islands. The local people who I met whilst there were all friendly. Took a taxi ride from George Town where the ship tendered and finally stopped for a while to relax on Seven Mile beach. The sand was soft and powdery and was magnolia in colour. The sea was a glistening deep turquoise and the ship we had travelled on sparkled in the distance in the hot November sun. Lovely dwellings were dotted around the beach area and there were a few restaurants and bars to while away the time. Before leaving the Island, I had to visit the shops near the port as they are famous for their duty free buys on famous name brand merchandise and quality souvenir clothing. A day was really not long enough - I loved the place!

| Och Kai - Rum Point, Grand Cayman - April 2005 |

We had the opportunity of staying in a 4 bed Villa at Rum Point on the Island of Grand Cayman and only had to pay for the flights - fantastic! The area at Rum Point was beautiful, the private Villas were fantastic everything from 1 bed apartments to 5 bedroom villas. Such a quiet area of the island.
We had our own pool, and private beach, as well as the use of a boat, jet-ski and kayak...!
The beaches at Rum Point were spectacular, light blue seas, white sands, and incredibly quiet. Wandered over to Rum Point club for lunch some days, didnt even need to lock the door, and we could wander over barefooted as our drive and the road was all very thin layer of sand....we mostly laid by the pool or visited 7 mile beach, which has to be one of the most beatiful beaches in the world. Weather was very hot, and it was such a shame to see what effects the Hurricane had on the island in 2004, such a shame.
We seemed to attract a group(?) of wild stingrays, but were warned by locals not to swim with them as they could be dangerous. Copious amounts of fish and crabs at Rum point as well as wild turtles! - nature at its very best....!
If you go to 7 mile beach, park in the carpark next to the governers house and lie just to the front and side of it, as its very quiet and theres shade from nearby trees, as wll as sshade for your car.
We went to the turtle farm but were appalled by the amercian tourists desire to lift the baby turtles out of the water and have pictures taken with them.
Georgetown gets extremely busy when the cruise liners come in, which are most days, so try and build your trips around that. Went to 'Hell', but didnt send a post card, as most people do, wish I had have done.
We drove round the east of the island which is unspoilt and very beautiful.
Buy a bottle of 'Big Black Dick rum' to give your friends a giggle...tastes quiet nice too! try the fresh conch too, absolutely delicious, as are the fresh vegetables, fruits and salad
We didnt find the island that expensive yet having talked to friends about other islands, I gather it is a little more so.
All in all tho a holiday of a lifetime, if you do get the opportunity to go to the Carribean, dont go to over populated islands, given the Cayman Islands a try, you'll definately not be disappointed...!
