Post    Hotel Westin Dragonara - St Julians

We really did not expect too much from this holiday and came away wanting more, much more.

We booked rooms on the Royal Beach Club floor - bigger beds more luxurious and were really delighted with them. The beds were so comfortable, the decor and the comfort of the room overall was just perfect. We had asked for interconnecting rooms if possible but were given adjoining rooms and humblest apologies because they had 'let us down'.

The pool area closest to the hotel is nicer, the pool on the beach is open to the public and in my opinion not so safe when you have kids to be concerned about.

The main restaurant in the hotel is pretty average and not worth a visit in all honesty, however the other restaurants belonging to the hotel are all excellent and in very picturesque settings overlooking the sea. There is a great Italian restaurant and a lovely steak/seafood restaurant situated right on the rocks.

The staff in the hotel were really first class - our every request was granted and we could not find anything to complain about. We have returned and shall continue to do so - this is a real gem of a hotel with the kind of personal service one does not usually find in a large chain.

Also there are some mega restaurants within walking distance of the hotel - just ask concierge for their recommendations you wont go wrong.

Post    St Georges Complex

the accommodation was clean and tidy. all the staff were very helpful although the resort is really for the under thirties we still found some excellent bars and restaurants. ones to avoid in our opinion are the argentinian steakhouse (over priced)most chinese (again very expensive)for the best steak on the island go to GINO'S on ball st,you wont be dissapionted.if you go self catering as we did we found it really was'nt worth the time and effort cooking in as the supermarkets were to expensive. for what we paid the whole fortnight was well worth the experience,we made some good friends and would certainly consider returning.

Post    St Georges Park - St Julians

there are certain thing you have to watch out for in this hotel

1. the pool, i have no reason to say this pool was rubbish just be careful on what you find in there! i was in the pool most of the day and everytime i got out of it, i brought hair with me, and some of the side grids at the side of the pool are un even so you may hit your toes or slip (as i done many times!) also the tiles IN the pool are smashed (only a few at the bottom)and the 2nd pool was very strange as the water was warm but salty, you had to wear goggles to see under water. But the rest of the pool was fine.

2. the sunbed man!, put it this way u cant miss him. he is so scary and mean. he looks like freddie crugger. he wont let u get anywhere near the sunbeds unless you have got money! and after that you have show him your ticket seeming he wonders round the pool looking for you, hes very nosy.

3. litter, the floor was minging. inside the hotel wasnt that bad but around the outdoor bar and both pools were horrible. i may only be 12 but i do understand that a hotel has got to be clean!

4. Italins, you are surroned by them. they are very rude, greedy (as you will see if you are half board!) and impatient. they will insult you but the best thing to do is to ignore them as much as you can.

5. lizards, the are hundreds of them. they are small but are very fast if you hate them stay in the hotel!

there were some other things but they werent that bad. but we did have a problem with the night clubs. they were on til 6 in the morning and were very loud. we were forunat to be facing the pool but a lot of rooms were facing the night clubs so you had to pay extra for a quieter room. scam!

the food was spot on. there wasnt a lot of things to choose from but if you like a good meal and you werent that fussy then you would be ok. the restaurant was very cool and was very tidy and it was brillant for help. if you needed some one to get you a drink or a cloth etc they would be there.

entertainment, now heres something that needs improving, if you like rubbish karioke and a very bad elvis impression then youll be fine but the rest was rubbish it was so bad it was nearly empty and no-one was paying attention to any of the entertainment they were just drinking and having a sit down with friends. we mostly went to the next hotel or down the movies and saw a film or went bowling.

shopping, there are loads of meal places around like burgerking (which is just down the road) or mcdonalds but on the bottom floor theres a gym (which you have to pay for)and a little corner shop. theres a huge shopping mall and that is about 10min walk. and that is good walk round.

THE ROOMS, the room were okish. they were cleaned every now or then and they were ok for size. me and my brothers shared a room and mum and dad were next door. the rooms might have fans in (ours did) but beware of the phone. one night me and my brother were nearly asleep when the phone rang. it was about 2 in the morning and we didnt answer it but it was scary. supposedly my brother said it rang the next night but i was asleep.the bathroom is horrible. it is tiny and very dangerous the sink was hanging off and the taps were either
1.not on at all
2.freezing cold
3.400 degrees hot!
also the door would lock but it wouldnt open we had to get the receptionist to open it as i was stuck! also it wasnt very good for my 7 year old brother.the shower you had to hold over your head and the bath was ok.

lifts, there are about 6 lifts all together
they were small and one got stuck a lot. though i didnt use them as i am frightened of lifts.

day time, was fab we either went the beach which had pedal boats which were cheap or round the pool.

got to go places, we were told that we shouldnt go to the waterpark as it was a waste of money. but we did go to a gorgous place called the blue lagoon. it was one of the best places i have ever been to. you go in clear water and there is tropical fish swimming round you.you get a boat which is about an hour long each way but its worth it. also popeye world, this is where the actual film pop eye was set.

the actual malta its self is beautiful nice weather and good company but its the hotel. its not a bit as good as malta!!!

Post    Hotel La Vallette - St. Julians

Can i just say it seems all everyone does is moan about this place. I have just arrived back , if you want somewhere exactly the same as England or Spain go there instead , you go on holidays for experiances , experiancing different cultures and ways of life . The hotel was basic but what else do you expect !!!! Yeah there was no hook for the shower and the drivers were crazy but so what !!!! I was terribly worried after reading the reviews on here before i left but was suprised when i found exactly what we had paid for .

The resort is in development at the moment but should be all perfect soon. Malta is expensive we ate evening meal at the hotel only once because we liked full days out . But i can honestly say eating out wasnt much better , but its not going to taste the same at home is it ?!The resort was fun lots to do and see and travelling to the nearby resorts like Silema and even Valetta was only 15c by bus what a bargain!! Loads of shops like Miss Selfridge , Topshop , BHS , M&S !! But all about the same price you would pay at home maybe even more !!!

In Conclusion i had a lovely time but never like to visit the same place twice os proberly wont be going back .The people are Friendly a real med treat and absolutly beautiful crystal clear sea our rep was brill , the staff were helpful . Overall a great experiance . Dont listen to the rest take a chance !!!!
P.s some very helful tips
* take tissue for public toilets
* take a bottle opener no cans
* be road aware
Have a great time !!!!

Post    Hilton - Portomaso

We are going back to the Hilton for a the 3rd time next week.

We first went in May 2004 and thought the hotel was excellent but only booked bed and breakfast so the following year we upgraded to half board (well worth it).

We booked with Malta direct who are at least £200 cheaper than a travel agent(cuts out the middle man)

2nd time was 2005 when we took our 18 month baby , we don;t normally go back to the same place but the hotel is immacultaly kept, the food is great so no need to worry when taking little ones, highchairs and cots supplied.

The only expense was the drinks by the pool and in the bars of the hotel but with the great supermarket just down the road we stocked out fridge uo with beers, wine, bottled water, coke and sat on our balcony in the evenings after the little one had gone to bed. The shop was great for the baby sold pampers nappies, wipes, yogurts, fruit crisps so made it so much easier.

The flight were all on time and the transfer was in a private taxi.

This year we are going back again but taking both our little girls 18 months and 2 1/2.

Would recommend to anyone, any age.

Post    Bay View

We arrived at Malta, to find it was raining and only just warm. This was made worse as it was 29ºC at home (UK) but that was the one and only lukewarm day of the week. The rest of the time it was really hot, this was in early September. We stayed at the Bay View Hotel in Sliema. This was a nice hotel, situated on a busy road, however traffic noise was low and the view (If you got one over looking the harbour was great, but there were some really awful rooms which looked straight into the opposing rooms. Sliema was busy and quite nice; however the whole appearance would be better if the litter in the street was cleaned up, lots of dog-ends, etc, and the roads and pavements are diabolical. However a short walk around towards St Julian's saw a much cleaner part of town, really beautiful at night, lots of places to eat out along the street.

There are very few beaches in Malta but the lack of these did not matter at all. The whole coast line is accessible for swimming, with lots of ladders fixed to the rocks and loads of shallow flat rocks to wade out. The sea in early September was beautiful. There was lots of fish to be seen and if you intend to spend any time in the sea, do yourself a favour and buy a diving mask and snorkel, it unlocked a whole new world to my wife and I and we spent many happy hours exploring underwater. One word of warning though, buy yourself a pair of jelly shoes, or take some old trainers, as we went barefoot at first and later both found these little shivers in our feet, they were really tiny and painful to walk on and really hard to get out.

The bus service is brilliant and more important than all IT WORKS. It's usually around 20 cents to get to the adjacent towns and the buses come along every 15 minutes or so.
