Reasonably accessible from Bulgaria's capital Sofia, in the city of Vidin lies the Baba Vida Castle. The Castle consists of two fundamental walls and four towers and is believed to be the only entirely preserved medieval castle in the country.
The fortress played a significant role during the Ottoman rule of Bulgaria, serving as a weapon warehouse and a prison, as it had been no longer been used for defensive purposes since the end of the 18th century.
Today, Baba Vida is a fortress-museum, where finds and intelligence about its history are kept. Being a popular tourist attraction, the fortress was restored to its former appearance.

Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is a Bulgarian Orthodox cathedral situated in the Bulgaria's capital, in Sofia. Built in Neo-Byzantine style, it serves as the cathedral church of the Patriarch of Bulgaria and is one of the largest Eastern Orthodox cathedrals in the world, as well as one of Sofia's symbols and primary tourist attractions.
The St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Sofia occupies an area of 3,170 square metres (34,100 sq ft) and can hold 5,000 people inside. It is the second biggest cathedral located on the Balkan Peninsula, after the Temple of Saint Sava in Serbia.

The Monastery of Saint Ivan of Rila, better known as the Rila Monastery is the largest and most famous Eastern Orthodox monastery in Bulgaria. It is situated in the NW Rila Mountains and is reasonably accessible from the tourist hub and capital, Sofia (117 km N). The monastery is named after the famous Bulgaria saint and hermit Ivan of Rila.
Founded in the 10th century, the Rila Monastery is regarded as one of Bulgaria's most important cultural, historical and architectural monuments and it is a key tourist attraction for both Bulgaria and SE Europe as a whole.
The whole complex occupies an area of 8,800 m² and is rectangular in form, centred around the inner yard (3,200 m²), where the tower and the main church are situated.

Trigrad Gorge |

Located in the village of Trigrad and reasonably accessible from the tourist hub of Sofia, lies the 7km Trigrad Gorge. Trigrad Gorge is a canyon of vertical marble rocks in the Rhodope Mountains. The gorge encloses the course of the Trigrad River that plunges into the Devil's Throat cave and 530m further comes out as a large karst spring. It laters flows in to the Byunovska River.
The gorge's west wall reaches 300 m in height, while the east one extends up to 300–350 m. In the beginning, the distance between the two walls is about 300 m, but reaches about 100 m in the north.
