The Angel of the North is a contemporary sculpture located in Gateshead, near the city of Newcastle, England. As the name suggests, it is a steel sculpture of a graceful angel, standing 20m tall, with wings measuring 54m across. The wings themselves are angled 3.5 degrees forward, which the designer Gormley, has said aims to create "a sense of embrace". It stands on a hill, on the S edge of Low Fell overlooking the A1 road and the A167 road into Tyneside and the E Coast Main Line rail route, and just S of the site of Team Colliery.

Hadrian's Wall is a stone and timber fortification built by the Roman Empire across the width of what is now N England. Construction started in AD 122, during the rule of emperor Hadrian, it was the first of two fortifications built across Great Britain, the second being the Antonine Wall in what now forms part of Scotland. Hadrian's Wall is the better known of the two walls because its physical remains are more evident today.
Vast sections of the wall still remain today and many different sites can be visited along the wall.
