Some say that Kirchberg is a smaller, quieter version of Kitzbuhel. The two are lift-linked, but Kirchberg is a resort in its own right. It's a largely unplanned village, lively and crowded, with lots of young Germans, Scandinavians and Brits here to enjoy the nightlife.
It's quite attractive and the hospitality is excellent. Prices are generally lower here than some more mainstream resorts in Austria, although they are still comparatively high. While having an attractive traditional village centre with a lovely church perched on a hill, development over the last 20 years to accommodate increasing numbers of tourists has given the village a rather sprawling feel which somewhat spoils its charm. The area is suitable for the young winter clientele, it is highly favoured by the Dutch who come in great numbers. All levels of skier are well catered for in the wider ski-area. There are very few character hotels, some traditional hotels remain but large sport hotels are in the majority with good in-house facilities. Purpose built but consistent with local building styles. Children are welcome. Overall, Kirchberg in Tirol is a good alternative to Kitzbuhel, with great nightlife and accommodation, but inconvenient slope accessibility.
