Kissimmee is a traditional Florida city that has completely lost its routes since the creation and expansion of the Orlando family entertainment world of Disney World. The area has geared itself up to be the accommodation capital of Florida but does have a number of attractions of its own to boast especially leisure and sports facilities. There are many AAA approved and Disney good neighbour designated hotels near Disney and other tourist class accommodations near historic downtown Kissimmee.
You can choose from among more than 40,000 accommodations, including maingate hotels and motels, suites, villas, vacation/holiday homes and condos.
With its huge variety of attractions within easy reach, it offers something for nearly everyone, particularly families with children. The historic downtown districts feature walking tours, antique shops, shopping, dining, or sightseeing.
The twin cities of Kissimmee and St Cloud could perhaps themselves be considered twinned with their much larger neighbour, Orlando, as most of the major attractions of the area are located between the 2 centres.
Locality:
Kissimmee is in the south east United States, in the centre of Florida, (70 mls SW of Daytona Beach (Atlantic Ocean, E coast), 75 mls NE of Tampa (Gulf of Mexico, W coast). 210 mls NW of Miami and its international airport. 18 mls S of downtown Orlando and 15 mls S of Orlando international airport). It is Built on a flat area, not much of it above sea level, which was originally swamp and citrus groves. It is very verdant with trees and lots of water features, lakes and rivers.

Central Florida the world's leading vacation destination.
The Kissimmee area offers recreational activities including golf, tennis, fishing, water sports, natural attractions, ecotourism and other many other leisure activities.
Also in close proximity is the exciting Kennedy Space Center and learn everything about our travels in space. During the NASA bus tour, you will visit the Saturn V Exhibition and the Observation Gantry where you can also take pictures of the shuttle launch pads. With a little luck, you might even see a space shuttle there! After the bus tour, sit back and enjoy an IMAX movie, or stroll through a real-size space shuttle, look at a moon rock and have "space" ice cream. A day of fun for the whole family!
Nearly all of the major family attractions such as Disney World, Universal Studios, Sea World and many others are all situated along a 20 mile stretch of Interstate 4 to the south of Orlando. Universal Studios is about 5 miles south of the city and Disney World is 20 miles south. Most of the hotels and tourist accommodations are located in the same general area.

The USA is home to several of the world's most exciting cities, some truly mind-blowing landscapes, a strong sense of regionalism, a trenchant mythology, more history than the country gives itself credit for and, arguably, some of the most approachable natives in the world.
America was 'discovered' by Columbus in 1492 and for 500 years people have travelled here seeking a better life in the 'land of opportunity'. The land was fought over by colonial powers for centuries and finally won its independence from Britain in 1783. Despite the near annihilation of the Native American population, one of the bloodiest civil wars the world had seen, and racism (Native Americans were not granted citizenship until 1924 and racial segregation was the norm until as late as the 1950s), the American people have succeeded in forging one of the worlds most united, democratic and tolerant nations, a fascinating melting-pot of cultures, and the undisputed military and economic heavyweight of the world.
The country is made up of 48 contiguous states of the continental USA, plus the huge state of Alaska, northwest of Canada, and the volcanic islands of Hawaii, 2,000 miles (3,219km) out into the Pacific. There are also the US territories, which include Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, the Midway Islands and US Virgin Islands. Tourism is focused mainly in the great cities such as New York and Washington, as well as sunshine states such as Florida, California and Hawaii. However the mind-blowing landscapes, found in the wealth of magnificent National Parks like Yosemite, Yellowstone and the Adirondacks, as well as spectacular sights like the Grand Canyon and the Rocky Mountains, are what make the USA so unique. With all this on their doorstep, it's easy to understand why most Americans have never bothered getting a passport. |
