Bayahibe, situated at the SE end of the country, on the Caribbean S coast (16 mls SE of La Romana. 66 mls SE of Santo Domingo airport) is a popular fishing village and offers a typical Caribbean atmosphere.
The excellent beach here is open to the public, and there are many restaurants and bars that are moderately priced. Visitors can easily get to the off-shore wildlife preserves of Catalina and Saona, which houses the National Park of the East. This park, is the focus of international archaeological interest as well as media attention as scientists and anthropologists continue to unearth traces of the first inhabitants on the island the Taino Tribe. |
